The single-seat Aeronca C-2 was so popular that the company decided to produce a two-seat version known as the C-3. The Aeronca Company produced its own engine, the E-113, tailored for this aircraft. This two-cylinder, air-cooled engine was very easy to maintain and, compared to other aircraft of the period, was very economical. It was also known for its reliability. An Aeronca C-3 was the first light plane to complete the 4,858-mile national air tour of 1931.The Aeronca C-2 and C-3 series were among the most affordable aircraft to own and operated in the mid-1930s.
